Joel Groom Retires after 40 Years

Joel Groom began his employment with Hancock County REC in May of 1977 as an apprentice lineman. He earned his journeyman status and worked in billing, accounting and work order processing. Joel then began working with meters and the computer system. Although he mainly worked in the office, Joel did continue to help the line crews during outages and emergencies.

After completing the computer networking program at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, in 2000 Joel became the cooperative’s information systems manager.

Joel and his wife Jackie have three children, Karlene, Shaun and Joshua, and five grandchildren. Retirement plans include traveling in their fifth-wheel camper, working at campgrounds across the country and enjoying their grandchildren.

Prairie Energy wishes Joel and Jackie all the best in their retirement and travels.
