About Us

Prairie Energy Cooperative (PEC) headquartered in Clarion, Iowa, is a member-owned, not-for-profit rural electric distribution cooperative. PEC provides reliable, affordable energy to businesses and industries, farms and homes throughout north-central Iowa. PEC is owned and controlled by the rural members we serve. The Cooperative is governed by seven board of directors elected by the member-owners. Prairie Energy serves over 3,100 member-owners with 2,076 miles of line in over 11 counties with 28 employees.

Our Values:  Prairie Energy shares the same values as the Seven Principles of Cooperatives along with the Touchstone Energy values.

Generation Mix: PEC is a distribution cooperative. Our power is supplied by Corn Belt Power Cooperative in Humboldt, Iowa and Basin Electric Power in Bismarck, ND, generation and transmission (G&T) cooperatives. The energy Prairie Energy distributes to our member-owners is mix of coal, natural gas, hydro, fuel oil, wind, and solar energy resources. Nearly 58% of the electricity generated is from emission and carbon free resources that minimize the impact to our natural environment.
