Kenny Monson Retires After 30 Years

Kenny Monson was hired by Hancock County REC in October of 1987 as groundsman.  When Hancock County and Wright County RECs merged to form Prairie Energy, He was chosen to fulfill the janitorial/shop maintenance position.  Over time he enhanced his position to include safety.  He was responsible for MSDS (material safety data sheets); safety inspections; and was the cooperative’s safety coordinator for monthly safety meetings.  Kenny also did all the testing of the transformers for PCBs as they were retired from service and was responsible for accident investigation.

Kenny became a registered EMT and provided the employee training on First Aid, CPR, and AEDs.  As far as we know, Prairie Energy was one of two cooperatives in Iowa who had an employee providing this training for its employees versus using the Statewide organization.  Through Kenny’s encouragement, the cooperative purchased AEDs for both office locations and now have AEDs in each cooperative truck.

Kenny and his wife, Sheryl have two girls and were very active in the foster children program – fostering at least 25 children.  They adopted 6 of those – all boys!

In retirement, Kenny plans on relaxing doing his favorite activity – camping and enjoying family.
